I wrote Ghost Towns of the Mind to express what my emotions will likely be at some point in the near future when the energy crisis will have grown to the level in which “authorities” and “experts” will be calling for a “mandated” (look up the definition of that word in Black’s Law Dictionary) “energy lockdown” because of an insufficient amount gasoline, diesel and other refined petroleum products.
I love to ski, and it really, really upset me when the ski areas were ordered closed by the CDC (as if the CDC has any legal authority to order a private business to close).
If an energy “lockdown” is “mandated” and it results in closure of ski resorts when they should be open, Ghost Towns of the Mind will be on the top of my playlist.
Here are a few lines from the song:
“The mountain towns still wait under snow,
Access roads quiet; no one could go.
I remember the smell of the spruce and the cold,
The way the morning light turned everything gold.
It’s all still there, and I’m wanting more,
Now a postcard world I can no longer tour.
These are the ghost towns of the mind,
Places still standing that we left behind.
Not abandoned by time, not erased by the snow—
Just locked away by a curtailed oil flow.
I travel their trails when I close my eyes…
In the ghost towns of the mind.”
